Chelsea transfers: Paris Saint-Germain complete the signing of Napoli striker Edinson Cavani for a reported £55m fee
Paris Saint-Germain have completed the signing of Napoli striker Edinson Cavani for a reported £55m fee.
The Uruguay international had been a target of Premier League trio Arsenal, Chelsea and Manchester City, but the Ligue 1 champions have won the race to sign the prolific finisher.
Cavani, 26, scored 28 Serie A goals for Napoli last season, and PSG’s president Nasser Al-Khelaifi believes Cavani’s signing shows the French club can attract the best players.
“The transfer of Edinson Cavani is further proof of the club’s ability to attract the best players in the world,” said PSG president Al-Khelaifi.
“The player was seduced by the club’s sporting project and is delighted to be joining an ambitious side, impatient to take on new challenges.
“We are especially happy to present such a hugely coveted player of immense talent to our supporters.”
Cavani scored 104 goals in 138 appearances for Napoli during a three-year spell in Naples after joining from Palermo in 2010.
