Gary Cahill is keen to impress new Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho during the club’s pre-season tours as he bids for a regular spot in the Blues’ side next season.
The England defender made 24 Premier League starts for the west London side last season, scoring two goals and notching up two assists in the top flight.
Chelsea head to Asia later this month before returning to the United States for the second year running to complete their pre-season trips.
And the 27-year-old wants to make the most of his first opportunity to catch the eye of Mourinho following the Portuguese coach’s return to Stamford Bridge on a four-year contract.
“These matches are only friendly games and the result doesn’t matter, but we all want to impress the manager and get into a winning habit as quickly as we can,” Cahill told Chelsea’s website.
“If we can get that right then hopefully we can start the season strongly.”
Looking ahead to the tours, Cahill added: “It’s good when you’re away to spend as much time with the other lads as possible, you really get to know people when you’re training together, eating together and relaxing together, and it helps form a strong team spirit.”
