Jose Mourinho has expressed his delight at the work ethic shown by his new Chelsea squad after a week of pre-season training with his Blues side.

The Portuguese coach, who returned to Stamford Bridge on a four-year deal last month, has been thrilled by his players’ attitude since their return to pre-season training at the start of last week.

And the 50-year-old has praised his side’s “fantastic” approach to the sessions ahead of the new season.

“At this moment the players are tired but we are not worried because we understand the process and in the first week this is normal,” Mourinho told Chelsea’s website.

“The players know because they have some experience that in one more week they will start the recovery from this period of accumulation of fatigue, and they will feel much more comfortable.

“After a week I am still the happy one because my boys have been fantastic because nobody stops, nobody wants to have rest and we are working very, very hard.”
