Kevin De Bruyne claims Jose Mourinho has “a lot of confidence” in the Belgian midfielder as he prepares for his first full season at Chelsea.

The 22-year-old spent the whole of last season on loan to Werder Bremen but Mourinho has already indicated that he sees De Bruyne as part of his first-team plans for the forthcoming campaign.

And De Bruyne, who signed for Chelsea from Genk back in January 2012, is thrilled to have impressed the Portuguese coach, who returned to Stamford Bridge on a four-year contract last month.

“The manager said he has a lot of confidence and brought me back because he believes in me,” De Bruyne told Chelsea’s website. “I have to show that on the pitch, but it is nice when the trainer has confidence in you.

“I have to work hard and see what happens in pre-season. After training you can have a good laugh, but in the session he likes discipline and that everybody is working hard on the field.

“We have a lot of young players and it will be good to go on tour and stay together, and get to know each other and other places. It is always fun.”
