Liverpool target Henrikh Mkhitaryan completes Dortmund move
Borussia Dortmund confirm the signing of Liverpool target Henrikh Mkhitaryan in a £23.7m deal from Shakhtar Donetsk
Borussia Dortmund have completed the signing of Liverpool target Henrikh Mkhitaryan from Shakhtar Donetsk.
The Armenia international has penned a four-year deal with the Champions League runners-up after Dortmund agreed a £23.7m fee with the Ukrainian Premier League winners.
Brendan Rodgers was reported to be a big admirer of the 24-year-old after the Shakhtar playmaker scored a staggering 25 goals in 28 appearances from midfield last season.
And Dortmund sporting director Michael Zorc admitted the Bundesliga outfit were thrilled to land Mkhitaryan.
“We are delighted that we got a fantastic new signing for the attacking midfield role in Henrikh Mkhitaryan,” Zorc told Dortmund’s website.
Last week, Liverpool were reported to be leading the race to sign Mkhitaryan with a £19m bid, while Tottenham Hotspur were also touted as potential suitors.
And the chairman of the Dortmund board, Hans-Joachim Watzke, admitted the beaten Champions League finalists were delighted to secure Mkhitaryan’s services.
“It was not an easy transfer, but we really wanted to have Henrikh – and now we have him!” said Watzke.
Dortmund have already signed Soktratis Papastathopoulos and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang after Mario Gotze completed his controversial move to Bayern Munich.
