Dietmar Hamann has urged Liverpool to make a decision on Luis Suárez’s future next week to avoid another ‘Andy Carroll situation’.

The Uruguay international continues to be the subject of interest from Arsenal, who have reportedly submitted an improved offer after the Reds rejected a £30m bid last week.

The 26-year-old, who joined up with the Liverpool squad in Australia on Sunday, expressed his desire to leave the club earlier in the summer after receiving a 10-game ban for biting Branislav Ivanović.

And Hamann doesn’t want the Reds to wait until the final week of the transfer window before a decision is made on Suárez, resulting in the club being forced to pay a big transfer fee for a replacement.

The former Liverpool midfielder posted on his Twitter: “A decision on Suárez, one way or another, has to be made by next week.

“Can’t have another situation where you pay way over odds for replacement which can happen if you lose him close to the end of the window

“Brendan Rodgers needs to plan and know where he stands with his squad.”

Earlier on Tuesday, Hamann laughed off claims Arsenal, who are currently enduring an eight-year trophy drought, were willing to pay £35m up front and addition £7m if Suárez helped them win silverware.

“Did I just read on my timeline that Arsenal offered 35m + 7m if they win a trophy?

“If true, it’s taking the mick for a club that’s not won anything for eight years.

“Would you rather take a £7m bonus off Arsenal or a £15m bonus from Fulham for winning a trophy?”
