Liverpool transfers: Kurt Zouma plays down Anzhi interest
Liverpool transfers: Saint-Etienne defender Kurt Zouma plays down interest from Anzhi Makhachkala
Kurt Zouma has moved to play down speculation linking the Liverpool and Newcastle United target with a move to Anzhi Makhachkala this summer.
The Saint-Etienne centre-half is currently on international duty with France at the Under-20 World Cup after a sparkling season for the Ligue 1 outfit.
The 18-year-old scored two goals in 18 top-flight appearances for the 10-time French champions last season, prompting interest from the Premier League.
Anzhi were being heavily linked with a move for the young defender but Zouma admitted that he is unaware of any interest from the Russian side.
“I don’t want any news,” Zouma told L’Equipe. “I’m not up to date. Anzhi? I’ve heard of them but I don’t know who they are exactly.”
Zouma has scored four goals in 46 appearances from Saint-Etienne after making his debut in a 3-1 victory over Bordeaux in Coupe de la Ligue in 2011.
