Liverpool’s Philippe Coutinho not fazed by expectations
Liverpool midfielder Philippe Coutinho says he is not fazed by increased expectations after his impressive start in England
Philippe Coutinho says he is relaxed about the pressure placed on the young Liverpool midfielder’s shoulders after his impressive start in the Premier League.
The 21-year-old scored three goals and made five assists in 13 top-flight appearances for the Reds after completing a £8.5m move to Anfield from Inter Milan in the January transfer window.
Coutinho is already being hailed as one of the club’s most important players as Brendan Rodgers’ men look to secure a top-four finish, but the Brazil international isn’t fazed by increased expectations.
“I always try to be relaxed, always play football and enjoy myself because what I like doing most is to play football, so I’m not concerned with pressure or such things,” Coutinho told Liverpool’s website.
“I just try to enjoy myself on the field and always do my best to help the team.
“I’ll work as hard as I’ve always done, always trying to improve each day as much as I can
and always trying to learn from the more experienced players and the manager. Always working hard is what is most important.”
Coutinho hopes his Liverpool form can help the former Inter Milan youngster secure a place in Luis Felipe Scolari’s squad for the 2014 World Cup in Brazil.
“Of course, it’s the dream of every player to represent their country and it’s not different for me,” he added.
“I have this dream, this aim, but I try to think only about Liverpool and having a good season, learning and evolving in my career.
“Then if I get an opportunity [with Brazil], I’ll make the most of it.”
