Manuel Pellegrini has revealed that he is hoping to bring in at least “two or three” new players at Manchester City before the start of the Premier League season.

The Citizens have been linked with the likes of Stevan Jovetic and Alvaro Negredo in recent weeks but have so far only recruited Jesus Navas and Fernandinho this summer.

And speaking after his first games as Manchester City boss ended in a 2-0 friendly defeat by SuperSport in South Africa on Sunday, Pellegrini reassured Citizens fans that he is working hard to strengthen his squad.

“We are aware that we need two or three more players,” said Pellegrini.

“It’s important to have a very good squad. I said before we came to South Africa that we need two players for each position and that’s what we are looking for and I’m sure we will get them.

“It’s difficult to say exactly which day but before the end of the month we will have a new attacker.

“We are working hard on new acquisitions before the start of the new season but we are not in an immediate hurry to bring them on board.”
