Man United boss Moyes gives Rooney and Van Persie updates
Manchester United boss David Moyes confirms Robin van Persie is fully fit and says Wayne Rooney's recovery is on track
David Moyes has confirmed that Robin van Persie is fully fit ahead of Manchester United’s friendly match against Cerezo Osaka on Friday.
The Netherlands striker was taken off as a precaution at half-time during Monday’s 3-2 defeat by Yokohama F-Marinos after the 29-year-old suffered a slight thigh strain.
However, the United boss has confirmed that the forward is back to full fitness, while also revealing that Wayne Rooney’s recovery from injury is on track.
“There was a practice match at Carrington the other day,” said Moyes. “Vida [Nemanja Vidic], Nani and [Antonio] Valencia all had playing time in that. Wayne is also running and at the level we thought he’d be at. He’ll step that up this week.
“Robin was a precaution the other night. I expect he and [Danny] Welbeck to both play tomorrow. [Michael] Carrick had a tight groin and is doing better. He probably won’t feature tomorrow but should resume training over the weekend.”
