Alexander Büttner says he isn’t bothered by speculation linking Manchester United with a swoop for Leighton Baines.

Red Devils manager David Moyes brought Baines to Everton in 2007 and helped the defender develop into one of the Premier League’s most consistent left-backs.

With Büttner inexperienced and Patrice Evra in the twilight of his career, Moyes was reported to be weighing up a bid for the Toffees defender.

But Netherlands international Büttner isn’t fazed by potential competition from the England international.

“The speculation doesn’t bother me. I hear the name Baines but for me I don’t care,” said Büttner.

“I want to play my own game. If he comes I don’t think my future will be in danger.

“I just want to be strong and let the trainer see what I have got. I don’t think about other players, just myself.”

Büttner also believes Evra’s performances did improve after the youngster was signed from Vitesse Arnhem last season.

“Manchester United need two good left-backs,” added Büttner. “I put pressure on Patrice because I did well when I played.

“But Patrice did well also. That is the way it works at United, you put pressure on each other.

“I played 13 games for this team. That is good. This season my target is to play more games. I want to go for the left-back position.”
