Bayern Munich have signed Manchester United target Thiago Alcantara from Barcelona in a €25m (£21.6m) deal, the La Liga champions have confirmed.

The 22-year-old, who was reported to be David Moyes’ top target this summer, will link up with his former Barcelona manager Pep Guardiola, who officially took charge of Bayern last week.

The Spain Under-21 international, who scored a hat-trick in his country’s 4-2 victory over Italy in the European Under-21 championship final, was limited to just 15 starts in La Liga last season, scoring two goals and making five assists.

However, Thiago was faced with stiff competition for a place in Tito Vilanova’s side from his more experienced compatriots Andres Iniesta, Cesc Fàbregas and Xavi.

A Barcelona statement read: “FC Barcelona and FC Bayern Munich have reached an agreement over the transfer of the player Thiago Alcantara to the German club for a total of 25 million (euros).

“This agreement also includes holding a friendly match between the two teams, which will be played in the next four years.”
