Cristiano Ronaldo wants to retire at Real Madrid, according to the Spanish club’s president Florentino Perez.

The 28-year-old’s future has been a constant source of speculation since he declared himself as “unhappy” in Madrid for professional reasons at the start of last season.

Ronaldo has been linked with a return to Manchester United, as well as cash-rich Paris Saint-Germain.

But Real chief Perez expects the forward to remain at the Bernabeu for the rest of his career.

“He is the one who wants to retire at Real Madrid and Real Madrid wants that to happen too, like Zidane and so many other players,” Perez told Univision.

Ronaldo spent six successful years at Old Trafford before securing a record £80m transfer to Real Madrid in the summer of 2009.

The Portugal international, who scored 34 goals in 34 La Liga appearances last term, recently took to Twitter to quash reports suggesting he had agreed a contract extension with Madrid.

And when asked about a possible return to Manchester United, Ronaldo said last week: “I really miss English football. [United is] the club that’s still in my heart and I really miss it, but now my life is in Spain.

“In the future we never know, but I’m really happy in the Spanish league.”
