Man United transfers: David Moyes aims to sign only ‘the best’ players
Man United transfers: David Moyes says he is only interested in signing the "best" players for the Red Devils this summer
David Moyes says he is only interested in signing the “best” players for Manchester United this summer as the Red Devils prepare for their Premier League title defence.
United have been linked with swoops for a host of big names in the current transfer window, including a sensational swoop for Real Madrid star Cristiano Ronaldo.
Gareth Bale, Leighton Baines and Kevin Strootman are among the other players to have been touted as possible targets for Moyes, who watched his United side lose 1-0 to Singha All-Stars in Bangkok in his first game in charge on Saturday.
And the Scot insisted that the Red Devils are only interested in top players when quizzed about his transfer plans after the game.
Moyes said: “Isn’t it great that the club says, “There’s no budget here, you go get who you want to get, just go and do it’?”
“We are looking at the best players. I do think it’s important that we show people we are carrying on the traditions and trying to take the club forward.”
And when asked if those “best players” include Bale and Ronaldo, Moyes replied: “I will not name anybody but certainly we are always looking at the best players.
“I think we are trying to strengthen in a couple of areas. We are short in midfield. We are also a club which tends to invest in the youth side, so you can expect us to go for players in that age group.
“We are working hard to make sure the first signing is the right one. I have been left a really good team and I want to add to it sensibly.”
