David Moyes remained coy when quizzed about speculation linking Cristiano Ronaldo with a sensational return to Manchester United.

Ronaldo has been linked with a move away from Real Madrid in recent months despite the Portugal international still having two years left to run on his contract with Los Blancos.

But when asked about the speculation suggesting the 28-year-old could be in line for a switch back to Old Trafford, Moyes gave nothing away at his first news conference as Manchester United manager.

“I won’t talk directly about Cristiano,” said Moyes. “But this club is always interested in the best players.”

Ronaldo, who spent six years at United before joining Real Madrid in a world-record £80m deal back in 2009, on Friday hinted that his immediate future remains at the Bernabeu.

“[United is] a club that’s been in my heart since I was there so everyone knows that I have a passion for that club but my future now is at Real Madrid and I want to be there,” Ronaldo said.

“I enjoy of course to play there [Real Madrid], I play there for four years so I want to continue there.

“It is not the best day to speak about my future. I am going to have time to speak about that at the beginning of pre-season.”
