Man United transfers: ‘Fàbregas could fill Rooney’s void at Old Trafford’
Man United transgers: Harry Redknapp believes Cesc Fàbregas could fill the big-name void at Old Trafford should Wayne Rooney leave
Harry Redknapp believes that Cesc Fàbregas could fill the big-name void left at Manchester United should Wayne Rooney leave the club this summer.
Rooney has been heavily linked with a move away from Old Trafford after it emerged that the striker had a transfer request rejected towards the end of last season.
United have already had a bid for Fàbregas of around £26m rejected by Barcelona as David Moyes looks to bolster his midfield options.
And QPR boss Redknapp feels that the Spain international would help to reduce the impact of Rooney’s departure should the forward move away from Old Trafford.
“A lot of people have wondered if signing Fàbregas would have any effect on keeping Wayne Rooney at Old Trafford but I don’t see any link there,” Redknapp wrote in his column for the Sun.
“There may be that there is no way back for Rooney and the club now. This could well explain why United are making such a big play for Fàbregas.
“They are desperately short in that area of the pitch — and losing Rooney would leave a big hole for United to fill. Fàbregas is a big name — and he could fill it.”
