Man United transfers: Nemanja Vidic hopes Wayne Rooney stays
Man United transfers: Nemanja Vidic says he is in the dark over Wayne Rooney's future at the Premier League champions
Nemanja Vidic says he is looking forward to Wayne Rooney “playing his best” football for Manchester United next season.
The England international’s future at the Red Devils continues to be a source of debate after the Premier League champions rejected the forward’s transfer request in May.
Rooney managed to score just 12 goals in 22 top-flight starts last season as the 26-year-old was outshone by Netherlands international Robin van Persie.
Arsenal, Chelsea and Paris Saint-Germain have all been linked with a big-money move for the striker, who was reported to have held talks with new United boss David Moyes last week.
And Serbia international Vidic is unaware of Rooney’s immediate future but hopes the former Everton youth graduate will remain at Old Trafford for many seasons to come.
“I haven’t talked to Wayne about his future. But I have seen him train extremely well over the last few days,” Vidic said.
“I think he is in the best shape I have seen him in the last five years. I am looking forward to him playing for the club and playing his best.”
