Man United transfers: Red Devils table £26m Cesc Fàbregas bid
Man United transfers: The Red Devils have table a £26m bid for Barcelona midfielder Cesc Fàbregas, according to AS
Manchester United have tabled an offer of €30m (£26m) to bring Barcelona midfielder Cesc Fàbregas back to the Premier League.
Red Devils chief executive Ed Woodward informed David Moyes that there is no limit to United’s transfer budget and the new head coach sees the former Arsenal star as the perfect fit for the style of play that he wants to apply to the team.
Moyes thought about going after Thiago, but was not sure the Spain international could adapt to the Premier League.
Fàbregas excelled during his time at Arsenal, eventually being made captain, and has an outstanding goal-scoring and assists record.
Moyes would be unlikely to reveal his cards regarding a move for Fàbregas if he did not believe the player was available – but Barcelona are likely to make any potential deal as problematic as they can. The player is under contract until 2016 and has a release clause of €200m (£173m).
These types of bids do not usually occur without the previous knowledge of the player, and are doomed to failure if there is no desire on his part to leave his current club.
At the beginning of the summer, there were rumours that both Manchester City and United were chasing Fàbregas, but this is the first bid that has been made public to date.
