Man United transfers: Tom Cleverley relishing world-class competition
Man United transfers: Manchester United midfielder Tom Cleverley says he is relishing world-class competition for places next term
Tom Cleverley insists he is relishing “world-class competition” for a first-team place at Manchester United next term.
The England international is hoping to impress the club’s new manager David Moyes, who replaced Sir Alex Ferguson at the Old Trafford helm earlier this summer.
Cleverley started 18 Premier League games last season as the Red Devils won their 20th top-flight crown but he could have even more midfield rivals next term.
Moyes has been linked with a move for Barcelona midfielder Cesc Fabregas in recent weeks – and Cleverley isn’t fazed by the prospect of having another competitor for a starting spot.
“There’s always going to be world-class competition and this club’s always going to be linked with big players,” Cleverley told PA Sport.
“I don’t really take much notice of it – I just play my football.
“Sir Alex challenged us every day, so we were always having to impress him. It’s no different under David Moyes. We’re all working hard to impress.”
Cleverley scored two goals in 22 Premier League appearances last season.
