Gerard Pique believes Wayne Rooney would “fit in well” at Barcelona amid the continuing uncertainty over the Manchester United striker’s future.

The 27-year-old has been heavily linked with a move away from Old Trafford after it emerged that he had a transfer request rejected by the Red Devils towards the end of last season.

And Pique, who spent four years with Rooney during his spell at United, believes that Rooney would thrive at the Camp Nou.

“I know he has what’s needed to be one of the three best players in the world. He’d fit well with Barcelona,” Pique told Sport.

“He can adapt to many positions. He’s best as the centre-forward, but we have seen him on the left or right side.

“He is very versatile, strong, fast and has great technique. I don’t think he would have any problems adapting.”

Rooney scored 12 Premier League goals and made 10 assists, despite being limited to just 22 top-flight starts for the Red Devils last season.
