Man United transfers: ‘Want-away Wayne Rooney should be sold’
Man United transfers: Dion Dublin believes the Red Devils should sell Wayne Rooney if the striker is serious about leaving the club
Dion Dublin believes Manchester United should let Wayne Rooney leave Old Trafford if the striker really is desperate to quit the Premier League champions.
The England international had a transfer request rejected by former United manager Sir Alex Ferguson in May after scoring just 12 goals in the 2012/13 campaign.
Chelsea have already failed with a reported £20m offer, while Arsenal are also reported to be interested in the 27-year-old Red Devils forward.
And Dublin, who spent two seasons at United, reckons Rooney should be allowed to leave the club if the striker is serious about seeking a new challenge.
“We don’t know what’s gone on behind closed doors. But if there’s any player that wants to leave then, as a player, you wouldn’t want to play with them,” Dublin said.
“You don’t respect your fellow teammates if you’re saying that you want to leave. If he has then there’s no future for him.
“I can’t see Wayne Rooney asking to leave Manchester United, I think it’s come from people around him. If he has said it then it must be because he’s been nudged that way. He’s sharper than people think.”
