Newcastle transfers: Alan Pardew wants to sign ‘two strikers’
Newcastle transfers: Alan Pardew underlines his desire to sign "two striker" for the Magpies this summer
Alan Pardew has underlined his desire to bring in “two strikers” at Newcastle United this summer.
The Magpies boss has been forced to fend off interest in a number of his players during the current transfer window, with Yohan Cabaye, Cheick Tiote, Hatem Ben Arfa and Papiss Cisse all being linked with a move away from St James’ Park.
However, the 51-year-old Pardew wants to add two forwards to his squad after losing Demba Ba to Chelsea in January, with Newcastle having been reported to be preparing swoops for Darren Bent and Loic Remy since the end of the season.
“I think we might need two strikers. My competition in that area – Cisse, Shola, Gouff and Adam Campbell – last season wasn’t strong enough,” Pardew told the Evening Chronicle.
“In the Premier League, that’s not enough. I need more than that.”
The 50-year-old played down speculation suggesting Newcastle could lure West Ham United defender James Tomkins to the Magpies this summer.
Pardew added: “I think we’re pretty strong there.”
