Jonjo Shelvey has revealed Swansea City manager Michael Laudrup played a big role when it came to convincing the midfielder to move to the Liberty Stadium.

The 21-year-old has signed a four-year deal with the Swans after the Welsh outfit agreed a £5m fee with Liverpool to bring the former Charlton Athletic star’s to the League Cup winners.

And England Under-21 international Shelvey, who scored seven goals in 68 appearances for Liverpool after joining in 2010, admitted he found it difficult to turn down a man of Laudrup’s stature.

“When someone like Michael comes in for you, then you can’t really say no,” he told Swansea’s website.

“I spoke to him and I liked what he had to say. Fingers crossed, it will all click on the pitch.

“He was one of the world’s best players – he has experience of playing for Barcelona and Real Madrid, so hopefully I can get some games under him and progress well. I want to learn under him and hopefully he can develop me into a top player.”
