Team GB women’s 4x100m seal victory at Anniversary Games
Great Britain's 4x100m women's relay team prove they have moved on with a stunning victory at the Anniversary Games
A year after failing to qualify for the London 2012 Olympics, Great Britain’s 4x100m women’s relay team proved they have moved on with a stunning victory in the capital.
Anyika Onuora, Dina Asher Smith, Ashleigh Nelson and Annabelle Lewis posted the fastest time by a British quartet for 12 years in the Olympic Stadium last night to win at the Sainsbury’s Anniversary Games.
Their time of 42.69seconds gave the host nation their first victory of the weekend, and according to Onuora, set down a marker for what they can achieve at the World Championships in Moscow next month.
“I think we have set the tone for everyone else and hopefully there will be more wins for Team GB,” she said.
“Now we need to run a quick time out there and do the business in Moscow.”
Asher Smith added: “Not only was the crowd sensational but the time was insane and it is so good to be able to do that in the Olympic Stadium.”
