Tottenham transfers: Corinthians have confirmed that Paulinho is leaving the club to join Spurs this summer
Corinthians have confirmed that Paulinho is leaving the club to join Tottenham Hotspur this summer.
The 24-year-old has been heavily linked with a £17m move to White Hart Lane in recent weeks as Andre Villas-Boas looks to bolster his midfield options.
And Corinthians director Roberto de Andrade confirmed that the Brazil international is heading to White Hart Lane at a news conference on Monday.
“I want to give our thanks to the immense Paulinho, for all he did for Corinthians,” De Andrade said.
“He will never be forgotten by any of us. He’s a great person and well deserved his [Confederations Cup Bronze Ball] award with the national team.
“Corinthians are very proud to have had a player like him on our roster.
“There’s nothing more righteous than that he continue life with an English club and meet a new culture.”
Speaking last month, Paulinho – who helped Brazil win the Confederations Cup with a 3-0 win over Spain in Sunday’s final – revealed his admiration for the north London club.
“I feel I am ready to experience football at the highest level in Europe and the opportunity to play in England is a dream,” Paulinho said.
“It’s a great pleasure to be linked to such a great club like Tottenham. They have a reputation as one of the great clubs in England who play exciting, attacking football which suits my style.
“I couldn’t turn them down if they made me an offer. It would be a fantastic opportunity to play for Tottenham.”
