Brad Friedel admits that all of the Tottenham squad are desperate to see Gareth Bale stay at White Hart Lane beyond the summer.

The future of the 23-year-old has been the subject of constant speculation since Spurs finished fifth last term and missed out on qualification for next season’s Champions League.

Real Madrid and Manchester United are among the clubs said to be keen on luring the PFA player of the year away from north London.

And although goalkeeper Friedel admits he and his team-mates are in the dark over Bale’s future, the American is hoping the Wales international stays with the Lilywhites for at least another season.

“Gareth Bale is just an unbelievable player. He’s one of the best in the world,” Friedel told talkSPORT.

“As far as what’s going on in the transfer market none of the players know anything, what I can say though is that all the players want him to stay.

“He’s not only a great player, he’s a great lad. He’s fantastic in the changing room, very down to earth and everyone knows what he can do on the field.

“He is a real athlete, he’s a big, strong boy and he is one of the best professionals in the game.”

Bale scored 21 Premier League goals for Tottenham last season.
