Tottenham transfers: Internacional hope to keep Leandro Damiao
Tottenham transfers: Internacional president Luis Cesar Souto de Moura believes the club can keep Leandro Damiao this summer
Internacional believe that they can fend off interest from Southampton and Tottenham Hotspur in their Brazilian striker Leandro Damiao.
The 23-year-old has been heavily linked with a switch to the north London side after coming close to sealing a move to White Hart Lane in two previous transfer windows.
The Brazil international, who helped his country win the Confederations Cup earlier in July, is also attracting interest from Southampton.
But Internacional president Luis Cesar Souto de Moura is confident Damiao will remain at the club as he looks to secure his spot in Luis Felipe Scolari’s World Cup squad next summer.
“If Al-Rayyan can keep Nilmar, we can keep Leandro Damiao, even if there is a big offer,” Moura told Radio Bandeirantes.
“It’s silly to sell Leandro Damiao this year, he has the chance to play the World Cup and improve at a personal and professional level.
“We are confident and we understand that he can wait another year, play the World Cup, increase his value with the national team and then be transferred and have other opportunities.”
