Tottenham transfers: Jermain Defore doesn’t want Gareth Bale sale
Tottenham transfers: Jermain Defoe says Spurs shouldn't consider selling their best players amid talk of Gareth Bale leaving
Jermain Defoe insists Tottenham Hotspur should not consider selling their best players amid speculation linking Gareth Bale with a switch to Real Madrid.
The Wales international has been one of the biggest transfer stories of the summer as the 23-year-old continues to be linked with Carlo Ancelotti’s side.
Andre Villas-Boas has insisted that Spurs chairman Daniel Levy is not looking to cash in on the north London side’s star player despite talk of a £50m bid from Los Blancos.
And Defoe is desperate to see the reigning PFA player and young player of the year remain at White Hart Lane beyond the summer to help mastermind their top-four bid.
“It’s important to keep your best players and it doesn’t make any sense selling your best players,” Defoe told Sky Sports News.
“On a personal note, it’s difficult to say much about it. Gaz had a fantastic year last year and the Premier League is one of the best leagues in the world.
“What he did last year was outstanding and if you do that you’re going to have other clubs after you.
“For me, I want us to keep all of our best players as I want to play with top players. We want to get in the Champions League and we need to keep our top players.”
