Tottenham transfers: Brazil international Paulinho says he wants to emulate Chelsea midfielder Frank Lampard
Paulinho says he is happy to be compared to Chelsea midfielder Frank Lampard amid reports of a switch to Tottenham Hotspur.
The 24-year-old has been widely linked with a £17m move to Spurs from Corinthians, with the Brazilian club confirming the midfielder’s exit earlier this week.
The Brazil international, who was part of his country’s squad which won the Confederations Cup on Sunday, has scored 20 goals in 86 top-flight appearances for his current club.
And Paulinho welcomed favourable comparisons to Chelsea’s all-time record goal scorer Lampard and expressed his desire to emulate the Englishman’s impact in the Premier League.
“This comparison is a responsibility that I will take. I will not run away from it,” Paulinho told the Daily Star.
“Lampard is a great player, not only for Chelsea but in world football.
“I intend to follow in his footsteps as he is a very professional guy. David Luiz always speaks of him on international duty.
“I’ve always looked at what Lampard does and to me he is a huge phenomenon.
“The way he hits the ball, what positions he takes up, he really is incredible.”
