Tottenham transfers: Porto leading the race to sign Bernard, says agent
Tottenham transfers: Bernard's agent says Porto are leading the race to sign the Atletico Mineiro midfielder this summer
Bernard’s agent has revealed Porto are leading Tottenham Hotspur in the race to sign the Atletico Mineiro midfielder this summer.
The 20-year-old, along with fellow Brazilians Leandro Damiao and Paulinho, has been heavily linked with Spurs as Andre Villas-Boas looks to bolster his attacking options during the current transfer window.
Bernard was part of Luiz Felipe Scolari’s Brazil squad which won the Confederations Cup on Sunday night after a 3-0 victory over Spain in the final.
But Spurs look set to miss out on the South American, who is also attracting interest from Champions League runners-up.
“The negotiations with Dortmund and Tottenham have cooled due to Bernard’s high asking price, and he won’t go to any of these clubs,” said Bernard’s agent Adriano Spadoto.
“There is nothing from Shakhtar, they have made no offer.”
The Brazil international’s representative also revealed that due to BMG’s (a Dutch bank) connections in Atletico Mineiro and Porto, the Portuguese champions are favourite to land Bernard.
“The agreement (with BMG) is a factor, so Porto are the most likely destination for Bernard,” added Spadoto.
“I believe that Bernard will leave Atletico Mineiro after the Copa Libertadores and the official announcement will be made by (Mineiro president) Alexandre Kalil.”
Bernard has scored 34 goals in 111 appearances for Atletico Mineiro after coming through the club’s youth ranks.
