Tottenham’s Benoît Assou-Ekotto unaware of new signing Paulinho
Tottenham Hotspur defender Benoît Assou-Ekotto admits he has never heard of the club's new signing Paulinho
Benoît Assou-Ekotto has admitted he has never heard of Tottenham Hotspur’s new signing Paulinho.
The Brazil international completed a reported £17m move to Spurs last week after impressing with A Seleção at the Confederations Cup last month.
Andre Villas-Boas is yet to make any other signings in the summer transfer window, but Assou-Ekotto is still in the dark on Spurs’ new South American.
“No. I don’t follow this kind of news,” Assou-Ekotto told Goal.
“Maybe, but I don’t know what he looks like.”
The France international also revealed he was similarly out of the loop when Spurs signed Rafael van der Vaart from Real Madrid in 2009.
“Two or three years ago, Rafael van der Vaart was at the training ground and I said ‘Hello’ but didn’t know he was Rafael van der Vaart,” he added.
“I don’t understand people who don’t understand me. I don’t go with them to their homes. I am just with them at the job.”
Assou-Ekotto has scored five goals in 195 appearances for the north London side after completing a £3.5m move to White Hart Lane from Lens in 2006.
