Wayne Rooney is not for sale, David Moyes tells Chelsea
David Moyes once again insists that Wayne Rooney will not be leaving Manchester United, amid Chelsea speculation
David Moyes has once again insisted that Wayne Rooney will not be leaving Manchester United this summer after Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho revealed his admiration for the striker.
The 27-year-old’s future has been a source of constant speculation this summer and Chelsea boss Mourinho fuelled reports linking him with the Blues by refusing to rule out a move for the striker.
However, Moyes has reiterated his believe that the England international will not be leaving Old Trafford this summer.
“People are entitled to talk about good players,” said Moyes. “I’m sure Jose has been asked about lots of players as well.
“I’ll keep repeating myself: Wayne is a Manchester United player and he’ll remain that.”
Rooney scored 12 league goals and made 10 assists, despite being limited to just 22 top-flight starts for the Red Devils last season
Speaking on Friday, Blues boss Mourinho revealed his admiration for the Manchester United striker.
“It’s a tricky question because I cannot speak about [that]. But you know me and it’s not my kind of character to speak with a bit of hypocrisy and I always say what I think,” said Mourinho after Chelsea’s arrival in Bangkok ahead of their pre-season tour.
“He [Rooney] is a player I like very much but I can say no more than that. Being fast and direct, I like that, but he’s a Manchester United player.”
