Aaron Ramsey is hoping to enjoy a sustained run in Arsenal first-team alongside Jack Wilshere next season.

Ramsey came on as Wilshere was substituted in Arsenal’s 2-2 Emirates Cup draw with Napoli on Saturday as the Gunners continued their preparations for the new season.

Both Ramsey and Wilshere have endured lengthy spells on the sidelines – but the Wales international is keen to be given the chance to forge a successful midfield partnership with Wilshere.

“Me and Jack have both been out for long periods of time with injury and we haven’t had the opportunity to play with each other that often,” Ramsey told Arsenal Player.

“Hopefully now we’re both back fit we’ll have more of an opportunity to play together. We understand each other and we’ve been training together for a while. I played with Tomas [Rosicky] towards the end of last season and that seemed to work so it’s only getting stronger as the season goes on.

“The injury I had takes a while to get over and to get mentally back into it. But I feel really good at the moment. I’m happy with my form and can’t wait for the season to get going now to get back and hopefully kick on from where I left off.”

The 22-year-old Ramsey saved some of his best performances for the second half of last season as Arsenal pipped local rivals Tottenham Hotspur to a fourth-place finish in the league.

And Ramsey insists that Arsene Wenger’s men are feeling optimistic heading into the new season.

“The lads are confident [about the new season],” continued Ramsey. “We had a great run-in at the end of last season and we’ve carried on from where we left off.”
