Arsenal

Wojciech Szczesny Looked assured, commanded his area well and was on hand to clear up any scraps in the first half. Was well-beaten twice by Drogba in the second half, however. 5/10

Kieran Gibbs Solid if unspectacular at left-back. Showed composure going forwards and enjoyed a duel with former team-mate Eboue. 6

Bacary Sagna Shifted to centre-half alongside Mertesacker and did well. Wenger will want to extend his contract. 6

Per Mertesacker Had little to do but was solid alongside a new central defensive partner. 6

Carl Jenkinson Spent more of the game attacking than defending but didn’t really excel doing either. However, it was an improved display following a below-par outing against Napoli. 5

Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain Showed glimpses of quality down the left but appeared to be lacking match practice, often failing to produce the final ball after good work. 5

Mikel Arteta (captain) Patrolled the pitch just in front of Arsenal’s defence. Quietly efficient as per usual. 6

Aaron Ramsey Picked out Walcott with a delightful long ball in the first half and did the simple things right but lacked an end-product going forwards. Started both games two days running so fatigue may have played its part. 5

Santi Cazorla Showed the usual high level of close control along with the odd flash of brilliance but clearly lacking match fitness after only joining up with the Gunners again recently. Subbed on the hour-mark. 6

Theo Walcott Made some good runs down the right but failed to produce an end-product in the opening exchanges. Got some luck towards the end of the first half when his cross bounced past a static Galatasaray defence and into the bottom-right corner to give Arsenal the lead. 7

Yaya Sanogo Made a very bright start on his Arsenal bow. Got the first shot away, and showed some very good close control but faded as the match went on. Didn’t put a foot wrong but didn’t dazzle. Subbed for Giroud after 60 minutes. 6

Substitutes:

Gedion Zelalem Dubbed the ‘new Fabregas’, the 16-year-old had some decent touches but didn’t stand out. 4

Olivier Giroud Gave the Gunners an extra dimension in attack when he was introduced. Had a couple of efforts on target but didn’t trouble Mulsera. 5

Ignasi Miquel On for Gibbs at left-back, the Spaniard didn’t do much apart from bundle down Drogba for the penalty that brought the equaliser. 3

Galatasaray

Fernando Muslera Caught napping for Walcott’s opener after a decent opening half. Was relatively solid when called upon after the break. 6

Albert Riera Did a decent job of keeping Walcott quiet but was poor going forward. 5

Aurelien Chedjou Was one of the players caught out by Walcott’s cross-come-shot but was otherwise assured in defence. 5

Semih Kaya Decent defensive display in the heart of the Galatasaray defence. 6

Emmanuel Eboue (captain) Received his customary warm Emirates reception with a smile. Kept Oxlade-Chamberlain relatively quiet but did little else. 5

Nordin Amrabat Tried his luck with a decent effort midway through the first half and was solid on the left. Wasteful with a half-chance to win it late on. 5

Felipe Melo A quiet game for the Brazil international after he netted his side’s winner in the 1-0 win over Porto on Saturday. Subbed after 65 minutes. 5

Engin Baytar Was a composed presence in the heart of the visitors’ midfield until he picked up an injury and was substituted after 35 minutes. 5

Hamit Altintop Made no real impact and was subbed off for Emre Colack at the break. 4

Johan Elmander Didn’t really do much in the first half and was replaced by Didier Drogba at half-time. 4

Umar Bulut Ineffective and quiet, he was replaced by Sniejder at half-time. 4

Substitutes:

Ceyhun Gulselam Was solid after being called into action due to Baytar’s injury. A reassuring presence for the visitors in midfield. 6

Didier Drogba A classic display. Made a nuisance of himself amongst the Arsenal back-four as he has done so many times in the past. His every touch was greeted by a chorus of boos from the Emirates faithful but that didn’t stop him from earning and converting a penalty to make it 1-1, then capping a man-of-the-match showing with a brilliant finish to win it for the visitors. 9

Wesley Sniejder A half-time substitute along with Drogba, the experienced Netherlands international didn’t produce much of note. 4

Eray Colak Took some nice touches and spread the play well. Unleashed a harmless long-range effort early in the first half. 5
