Arsene Wenger insists that “a lot will happen” in the last 10 days of the transfer window after Arsenal eased to an impressive win over Fenerbahce on Wednesday.

Second-half goals from Kieran Gibbs, Aaron Ramsey and a penalty from Olivier Giroud helped the Gunners bounce back from their shock 3-1 defeat by Aston Villa at the weekend in the perfect fashion.

Wenger, whose side take a commanding 3-0 lead back to north London after the first leg of the Champions League play-off, was forced to switch Bacary Sagna to centre-half in Turkey after Laurent Koscielny was substituted with a nasty-looking gash to the head.

But when asked if he felt Arsenal lack cover at the back, Wenger told Sky Sports: “I believe that you’d have to travel a long way to find a better [defender] than Bacary Sagna, no matter how much money you have.

“Of course if we have some more accidents [we will strengthen] but we will not have injuries forever because [Thomas] Vermaelen will come back.”

He continued: “We are still a bit short at the back yes, one player maybe.

“But a lot will happen in the last 10 days. People don’t understand that it [the transfer window] is just really starting now.”

Arsenal travel to Fulham on Saturday lunchtime for their next Premier League game.
