Arsenal transfers: Arsene Wenger ‘optimistic’ about new signings
Arsenal transfers: Arsene Wenger insists he remains "optimistic" that he will be able to bolster his squad before the deadline
Arsene Wenger insists he remains “optimistic” that he will be able to bolster his Arsenal squad before next week’s transfer deadline.
The Gunners have still so far only signed 20-year-old French striker Yaya Sanogo on a free transfer, despite the north Londoners having been linked with a host of top players this summer.
The latest reports claim that Arsenal are preparing to submit an improved £17m offer for Newcastle United midfielder Yohan Cabaye.
And when quizzed on his transfer plans ahead of Arsenal’s Champions League play-off against Fenerbahce on Tuesday, Wenger insisted he is confident he will be able to add to his squad.
“I will not give you any names, it would make wrong hopes,” said Wenger. “The disputes we have across the country are because managers talk about other players.
“We have to be discreet. But we work very hard on it. There’s no fixed date on transfers. We don’t have a fixed number we want, the most important is to focus on our own squad.
“If I add someone, it has to be special. I’m still optimistic and I hope we don’t disappoint you.”
