Arsenal transfers: Arsene Wenger promises fans new signings
Arsenal transfers: Arsene Wenger insists the Gunners remain "active" in the hunt for new signings this summer
Arsene Wenger insists that Arsenal remain “active” in the transfer market and is sure he will be able to bolster his squad before the summer deadline.
Much has been made of the Gunners’ lack of activity in the transfer market so far this summer, with 20-year-old French striker Yaya Sanogo the only new recruit to arrive at Emirates Stadium.
The north London club have been linked with a host of top players in recent weeks, including Liverpool striker Luis Suarez and Bayern Munich holding midfielder Luiz Gustavo.
And Wenger has once again insisted that he is working hard to add to his squad before the transfer deadline on 3 September.
“We are active,” Wenger told Arsenal Player. “We are in a situation like Manchester United, like Chelsea, where everybody expects signings and at the moment not a lot has happened.
“There are 18 days to go, so that is a long time in the transfer market and we will be active.
“I cannot certify what the number [of players coming in will be], but we will be active until the end, that is for sure.”
Meanwhile, forward Theo Walcott has said he hopes to have recovered from a knee complaint in time for Arsenal’s Premier League opener against Aston Villa on Saturday.
