Arsenal transfers: Gourcuff ‘ready to take pay-cut’ to join Gunners
Arsenal transfers: Yoann Gourcuff is ready to take a significant pay-cut to seal a move to the Gunners, says Lyon president
Yoann Gourcuff is ready to take a significant pay-cut in order to seal a move to Arsenal, according to Lyon president Jean-Michel Aulas.
The 27-year-old playmaker has failed to find consistent form after securing a £19m transfer to the French club from Bordeaux in 2010.
Gourcuff is the highest-paid Frenchman in Ligue 1, earning a reported monthly wage of £350,000.
The midfielder has been linked with a loan switch to another club in the French top flight in recent weeks – but Aulas insists that was never an option and claims the player was only ready to reduce his wages to join the Gunners.
“Can you see us paying part of his salary for him to play against us with another French club? We’ve never considered that and it would even more stupid now than it was a fortnight ago,” Aulas told OL.
“All that I know, if I understood correctly, is that he was ready to lower his salary to go to Arsenal, but that’s not the same thing.”
Gourcuff made 19 appearances for Lyon last season, scoring three goals and making seven assists.
