Arsenal transfers: ‘Luis Suárez believes he will join the Gunners’
Arsenal transfers: Ex-Liverpool defender Mark Lawrenson feels Luis Suárez is expecting to join Arsenal this summer
Luis Suárez is expecting to join Arsenal this summer, according to former Liverpool defender Mark Lawrenson.
The Gunners have been heavily linked with a swoop for the Uruguay international and are thought to have had two bids for the striker rejected by the Reds in recent days.
Arsene Wenger on Friday insisted that he is looking to find an “amicable” resolution to the situation concerning the 26-year-old.
And former Reds defender Lawrenson is expecting Suárez to continue to push for a transfer to Emirates Stadium.
“Arsene Wenger bangs on about having money to spend, but the reality is he doesn’t like spending it,” Lawrenson wrote in the Liverpool Daily Post.
“But I’m convinced Suárez believes he is going to be an Arsenal player.
“The evidence all points to that. And if he thinks he might have to stay at Liverpool, I’m sure there will be a different modus operandi from Suárez and his agent.”
Suárez scored 23 Premier League goals for Liverpool last season as they finished seventh in the Premier League.
Speaking on Friday, Wenger said that he prefers to conduct Arsenal’s transfer dealings with as much privacy as possible.
“I don’t want to speak about Suárez because that’s between Liverpool and Arsenal,” Wenger told a news conference ahead of this weekend’s Emirates Cup.
“We will completely respect what Liverpool want to do – [and] we want to do that in an amicable way if it’s feasible.
“I’m a great believer that you have to keep as much confidentiality as possible and that is quite difficult in the modern world.”
