Brendan Rodgers has once again emphatically ruled out the possibility of Luis Suárez leaving Liverpool to join Arsenal this summer.

The Gunners have had at least one bid rejected for the 26-year-old forward, whose future has been a source of constant speculation since his public plea for a move away from Anfield last week.

Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger said on Friday that the Gunners would continue their pursuit of the Uruguay international, who scored 23 Premier League goals for the Reds last season.

But Rodgers has dismissed the notion of Liverpool selling their prized asset to one of their top-four rivals.

“I spoke with [Liverpool owner] John W Henry when we were in Norway during the week, and we’re all on the same page really,” Rodgers said after watching his side lose 1-0 to Celtic in Dublin in their final pre-season friendly.

“We’re adamant that he [Suárez] won’t be going to Arsenal, that’s for sure. We want to keep him.”

Suárez has been forced to train alone at Liverpool’s Melwood training complex in recent days following the explosive interview he gave last week in which he made clear his desire to leave Merseyside for a team in the Champions League.

And Rodgers says that he will be expecting the striker to make an apology to his team-mates before he is reintroduced back into the first-team set-up.

“Initially there’ll be a recognition that an apology to his team-mates [is needed],” he continued.

“Luis Suárez, from the day I’ve walked in here, has fought tirelessly for the club. So when I’ve seen him and how he’s been over a period of time, I know it’s not the Luis Suárez that I know.

“I have to protect the great supporters of this club and the players because they deserve more than that.

“He’s spent some days working on his own. The group has been separate to that and working very hard. I think when he comes back from his international trip, we’ll assess it from there.”

Rodgers added: “He’s a world-class striker, and when he’s committed to the cause of playing for Liverpool, we’ll welcome him back with open arms.

“There’s been lots of speculation about all these clubs. I was made aware at the end of last season that we were going to have a number of clubs come in for him. We’ve had one [from Arsenal], and that’s been it. Our intention is to keep Luis Suárez, so the story’s the same really.”
