Ian Wright says he finds it “strange” that Luis Suárez would be interested in a move to Arsenal – but would welcome the Liverpool striker’s arrival in north London.

The 26-year-old forward’s future has been a source of constant speculation this summer since he stated his desire to leave Anfield at the end of last season.

Arsenal are understood to have had two bids for the striker rejected by the Merseyside club as Arsene Wenger looks to bolster his attacking options.

And former Gunners forward Wright has admitted his surprise at seeing the north London side linked with a move for Suárez.

“I’d welcome him at Arsenal with open arms,” Wright told BBC Sport.

“But if I was Suárez, when you look at everything, it does seem strange he would want to go to Arsenal. I would give Liverpool another season.”

Liverpool captain Steven Gerrard on Thursday claimed that a move to Arsenal for Suárez “would not make sense” – and Wright agrees.

“Gerrard is not someone who comes out and says things flippantly,” said Wright.

“If you look at Arsenal – not won anything in eight years, just challenging for fourth place, not really any players there who will make him say ‘I’m going to play with him and him’ – Gerrard has got a point.”
