Arsenal transfers: Arsene Wenger says Mathieu Flamini is a player with "real quality" after re-signing the France international
Arsene Wenger says Mathieu Flamini is a player with “real quality” after the Arsenal manager signed the midfielder on a free transfer.
The 29-year-old is believed to have agreed a three-year contract with the Gunners, reported to be worth £40,000-a-week.
The out-of-favour France international was released by Serie A side AC Milan after his contract expired this summer following a mixed five-year spell at the San Siro outfit.
Flamini, who has three caps for Les Bleus, moved to Italy from Arsenal in a controversial free transfer after failing to agree a new deal with the north London side in 2008.
And Gunners manager Wenger expressed his delight at re-signing the Frenchman, who is the north London side’s second arrival this summer.
“We’re very pleased Mathieu has agreed to re-join us,” Wenger said.
“He is a player of real quality, with a fantastic work rate and great mentality. As we know, Mathieu is a strong midfielder, but is also is comfortable playing in defence too. He is a very good addition to our squad.”
Flamini scored seven goals in 96 Premier League appearances for the north London side during his first spell at Arsenal.
