Pepe Reina says he expects Liverpool striker Luis Suárez to leave the club this summer amid interest from Arsenal.

The Spain international made his Napoli bow in a 2-2 draw with Arsenal in the Emirates Cup on Saturday after joining the Serie A side from Liverpool on a season-long loan last week.

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger confirmed after the stalemate that the Gunners had made a bid – reported to be £40,000,001 – to sign the Uruguay international.

“It looks like he’s going to leave, but at the end of the day the club says he’s their players and they must take the decision,” Reina said.

The 30-year-old was also critical of Liverpool’s handling of his loan move to Napoli after Brendan Rodgers signed Simon Mignolet from Sunderland in June.

And although Reina was disappointed to leave the Reds, the former Villarreal shot-stopper is delighted to have the chance to compete in next season’s Champions League.

“It’s a new challenge right now for me and I’m looking forward to playing in the Champions League which was a missing competition for us in the last three or four years,” Reina added.

“It’s what every player can wish to play every year – the Champions League is the biggest tournament at club level and to fight for the Scudetto is one of the targets as well.”
