Arsenal transfers: We are ‘still working’ on signings, insists Wenger
Arsenal transfers: Arsene Wenger reassures Gunners fans that he is still working to strengthen his squad ahead of the new season
Arsene Wenger has reassured Arsenal fans that he is “still working” to strengthen his squad ahead of the new season, despite a lack of transfer activity at Emirates Stadium.
The Gunners are yet to bring in any new recruits since the singing of 20-year-old French striker Yaya Sanogo on a free transfer from Auxerre earlier in the summer.
The north London club are widely believed to have had two bids for Liverpool striker Luis Suárez rejected by the Reds, and Wenger saw former transfer target Gonzalo Higuain join Napoli from Real Madrid last week.
Wenger insists that the Gunners are still keen to bolster their squad but the Frenchman is convinced that the players currently at his disposal are only going to get better next season.
“Of course we are still working on improving our squad,” Wenger said through an Emirates sponsored ‘Google Hangout’.
“But we have a base of young players, who started in the Premier League with us, like Wojciech Szczesny, Carl Jenkinson, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, Jack Wilshere, Theo Walcott and Aaron Ramsey.
“That is why what we do is unique. Nobody else has done that. Look at our competitors, who in the last 10 years has started for them in the Premier League and is still there now? Very few.
“I believe my squad have a special bond and that they are on their way upwards, they are not over the hill, they will be better next year. I am confident we will be stronger next season.
“For the first time in recent years we haven’t lost any players. It’s vital for us to continue if we have a good start.”
