Theo Walcott has backed Arsenal’s pursuit of want-away Liverpool striker Luis Suárez.

The Uruguay international is keen to seal a move to the Gunners in order to play regular Champions League football this season.

Liverpool have rejected two offers from the north London side but the 26-year-old looks increasingly likely to leave Anfield in the current transfer window.

And Arsenal forward Walcott reckons Suárez would be a top-class signing for Arsene Wenger’s side.

“If he [Suárez] comes, great,” Walcott said.

“Even if we stay as we are now, we are a great team and we showed that in the last 10 games last season. We just need to do that a bit more on a consistent level at the start of this year but every player who is at Arsenal is a top-class player.

“You’re not going to get an average player come to Arsenal, I think that every player that is here is a top-class player. The boss has believed in so many players he has brought in and they have done so well.”

Walcott, 24, scored 14 Premier League goals last season, while Liverpool’s Suárez netted 23 top-flight strikes.
