Arsene Wenger says Arsenal are looking “more for quality than for numbers” in the summer transfer window.

The Gunners have only signed France Under-21 international Yaya Sanogo on a free transfer from Auxerre, despite Wenger allowing 17 squad players to leave Emirates Stadium over the past three months.

The 63-year-old Arsenal manager had been linked with a move for Bayern Munich midfielder Luiz Gustavo, but the Brazil international agreed a deal to sign for Wolfsburg on Friday.

Wenger has also been left frustrated in his bid to sign want-away Liverpool striker Luis Suárez after the Reds rejected two big-money offers from the north London side.

But the Gunners boss is still hoping to sign “two or three players” before the current transfer window closes next month.

“We’re looking more for quality than for numbers. We would like two or three players, if possible more,” Wenger told a news conference on Friday.

“We’re looking more for quality than for numbers. Recently players like Oxlade-Chamberlain have developed very well.”

Wenger’s side kick off their Premier League game with a home match against Aston Villa at The Emirates on Satuday.

And the Arsenal boss is relishing the new season.

He added: “Every football game is a massive excitement for me.”
