Arsenal transfers: Alan Pardew admits Gunners target Yohan Cabaye could still leave Newcastle United this summer
Alan Pardew admits Arsenal target Yohan Cabaye could still leave Newcastle United this summer despite making his first Premier League appearance of the season.
The France international missed his side’s 4-0 loss to Manchester City and stalemate with West Ham United after Arsenal had a bid rejected for the former Lille midfielder.
However, Pardew felt Cabaye was in the right frame of mind to feature for the Magpies against Fulham on Saturday, and the 27-year-old played his part as a second-half substitute in a 1-0 victory.
But the Newcastle manager revealed Cabaye’s long-term future at St James’ Park is far from secure.
“It doesn’t mean he’s staying because the window is staying open until 11pm on Monday,” Pardew told BBC Sport.
“It’s a worry and we’ve marked his agent’s card that if he wants to do business then he should do it early.
“The fans got it right, it was a mixed reaction, some were saying Newcastle comes first and others welcoming him because he’s a great player.”
Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger is believed to have offered £10m for Newcastle’s talisman, who scored six goals in 26 Premier League appearances last season.
In total, Cabaye has scored 50 goals and made 46 assists for Newcastle after moving to the Magpies from Lille in 2011.
