Arsenal transfers: Cabaye will cost ‘world-class’ money, warns Pardew
Arsenal transfers: Alan Pardew says Yohan Cabaye will cost "world-class" money if Gunners want to sign midfielder before Monday
Alan Pardew has warned Arsenal that they must pay “world-class” money if they want to tempt Newcastle United into selling Yohan Cabaye before next week’s transfer deadline.
The Gunners had a bid in the region of £10m for the France international turned down by the Magpies last week, with Arsene Wenger keen to bolster his midfield options following injuries to Mikel Arteta and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain.
Reports have claimed that Arsenal are lining up an improved offer for the 27-year-old this week, but Pardew insists the midfielder, who sat out Newcastle’s opening Premier League games, will not be sold on the cheap.
“He either stays or he goes,” Pardew said. “The bottom line with a world-class player is he has to go for world-class money.
“The answer isn’t as simple as a ‘yes’ or a ‘no’. The answer is he is either going to be sold and we are going to have to replace him in the window that we have left, or he’s going to stay.
“But I, as the manager, have to protect him and protect the football club, more importantly. The first thing on my agenda is the football club, trust me, and that will always come first while I am the manager here.”
