Arsene Wenger delivers Arsenal injury update ahead of Spurs clash
Arsenal suffer blow in the build-up to Sunday's north London derby after Lukas Podolski is ruled out for up to 10 weeks
Arsenal have suffered a blow in the build-up to Sunday’s north London derby after Lukas Podolski was ruled out of action for up to 10 weeks with a hamstring injury.
The Germany international was forced off in the second half of Arsenal’s 2-0 win over Fenerbahce at Emirates Stadium on Tuesday after pulling up during the Champions League play-off victory.
“It is bad news about Lukas Podolski as he will be out for eight to 10 weeks,” said Arsene Wenger.
“His hamstring is much more damaged than we thought at the start. It is very disappointing and we have paid a very heavy price for that win [over Fenerbahce]. We have to be patient now.”
Wenger did have some good news to deliver about midfielders Aaron Ramsey and Jack Wilshere, who both suffered injuries during Tuesday’s win in north London, as the Frenchman confirmed the pair will be fit for the visit of Spurs on Sunday.
“The news is quite positive [on Ramsey and Wilshere],” he said. “They just had bumps and bruises. They will be involved.”
Wenger added: “Mikel Arteta is doing OK but there are few weeks to go with him. Thomas Vermaelen could be back after the international break.”
