Wenger hails Podolski and insists Arsenal want to keep him
Arsene Wenger singles out Lukas Podolski for special praise after the forward's double sank Fulham and gave Arsenal their first win
Arsene Wenger singled out Lukas Podolski for special praise after the forward’s double sank Fulham and gave Arsenal their first league win of the season.
Olivier Giroud scored his third goal in three games for the Gunners at Craven Cottage to give the visitors the lead, before Podolski fired home either side of the break in west London.
Darren Bent then tapped home a consolation for Martin Jol’s side as the north Londoners notched up a 3-1 win.
Podolski has been linked with a move away from Arsenal in recent days, with Schalke reportedly keen on luring the Germany international back to the Bundesliga.
However, Wenger was thrilled with Podolski’s display and insisted that he is planning to keep the 28-year-old at Emirates Stadium.
“I am pleased for him because he hasn’t started much recently more because of the balance of the team than his performances,” Wenger said.
“I am pleased because he plays with a lot of spirit and he can score goals.
“Everybody in the squad loves Lukas and I want to keep him. When a player doesn’t play he is not happy and recently he did not always start but if you look at his and Giroud’s goalscoring record it’s very good.”
